The Tip of the Iceberg
A state-of-the-art sports and training facility destination located in the foothills of Northeastern Italy.
The program called for limited exterior building envelope of 1,000m3 with the remainder of facility with indoor futsal courts, wellness center gym, climbing wall, viewing boxes and restaurant 10 meters below grade. An inverted tower facilitates the program while at the same time takes up relatively little space on the site surface.
The top of the tower shows itself as a glass cube, with upper levels used for executive board meetings and events. At-grade and below grade levels are used for cafe, restaurant, spa, viewing suites and fitness center.
The upper slab at grade is perforated with cast glass apertures to let in natural light below; and the recurring circular motif continues as a perforated brises soleil surrounding the upper tower designed to filter sunlight of varying intensities at specific times of the day and season.
